For many athletes in the past, getting your own trading card or action figure was a big deal. That still happens, but these days, sports stars are also getting to see realistic versions of themselves in the video game world. That’s certainly true for the various 2K Sports titles, including WWE 2K19. Recently, WrestleMania 35 stars including Mustafa Ali and Bobby Lashley were among those discussing what it was like to make their WWE 2K debuts.
WrestleMania 35 stars discuss 2K19 debuts
The folks from WWE 2K19 were on the WWE Hall of Fame Red Carpet this past Saturday evening. During that time, they were able to talk to a number of WWE superstars about topics related to the gaming world. A new video shows off some of the stars discussing how it felt to make a debut in this year’s game. Among them are Maria and Mike Kanellis who had different reactions to it.
For Maria, she’s not debuting, so she indicated that it’s great to see how much the game has improved over the years in terms of realism. Her husband Mike made his debut with her as part of the 2K19 Rising Stars pack. He discussed how great it feels to finally get to brag to friends that he’s in the video game. They both added it was great to have the game to show their daughter in a few years too so they can let her know “we were cool once.”
Bobby Lashley was also in a DLC pack. He gave his thoughts on being in 2K19. Lashley said he loves seeing the games. He added, “It’s great to be back in the game…my kids are big into playing the games now so they get to see daddy.” He added that his kids had the old game, but the new game makes things “more personal for them.”
WWE 2K19 Superstars’ WrestleMania 35 results
Mustafa Ali, who goes by Ali now in WWE, gave a humorous tale about his wife sending him a video clip of her playing the game. That video featured him being destroyed in and around the ring by Finn Balor. Check out the fan match via YouTube below for another Ali vs. Balor matchup.
Other superstars who spoke on their 2K19 debuts included Lacey Evans and Drew Gulak. Of them, Gulak admitted he’s a gamer and glad to see that community members won’t be making their own weird versions of him anymore.
Of those superstars, Maria, Lacey Evans, Bobby Lashley, and Ali were all participants in different WWE WrestleMania 35 matches. Unfortunately, none of them captured the “W,” though. Maria and Lacey Evans weren’t able to win the women’s battle royal. Ali failed to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, while Lashley lost the Intercontinental title in his match against Finn Balor. Mike Kanellis and Drew Gulak were off this year’s card.
The winner of that Andre the Giant Memorial was Braun Strowman. He was one of the winners in the WWE 2K19 Tournament Turmoil semifinals matches and will take on Golden AJ Styles in tonight’s finals.
