The NBA 2K League just recently got underway this month with 21 teams competing for all the glory. The first official tournament called THE TIPOFF has already produced some early drama and publicity for the league, but unfortunately not in the best way. A recent NBA 2K League brawl has resulted in a number of suspensions and fines for players from the Hawks and Celtics gaming squads.
NBA 2K League Brawl breaks out between Hawks, Celtics
A recent match on Wednesday (Apr. 10) from the NBA 2K League schedule featured the Hawks Talon GC and Celtics Crossover Gaming teams facing off. The Hawks team picked up a 68-58 victory in the matchup held at Long Island’s NBA 2K League Studio. However, there was apparently some bad blood between members of the two teams.
Following the Hawks Talon victory, the two teams went to shake hands. Rather than shaking hands, one player walked into the other. From there, Celtics Crossover Gaming’s Albano “oFAB” Thomallari shoved the Talon’s Randolph “Rando” Moreno rather than exchanging any pleasantries. On-site personnel had to step in to settle things down. The matchup was streaming on the NBA 2K League Twitch channel at the time. The incident went viral and is shown in the video clip below.
The NBA 2K League involves teams that are matched up with NBA franchises and draft talented NBA 2K video gamers. There are several tournaments and a full schedule which teams participate in. Ultimately, one team is crowned as champions, similar to the NBA.
While the recent incident didn’t get too out of hand, it is bringing some attention to NBA 2K League. The league is in just its second season and has been expanding in terms of where they bring talent from. There are also new teams competing this season. In addition, the NBA 2K League 2019 draft made history with its first female player drafted this season.

As of Friday (Apr. 12), the NBA 2K League issued an official statement regarding punishments for the postgame incident. Per the league, OFab and Dat Boy Shotz will each serve a one game suspension. OFab and his Celtics Crossover Gaming teammate Ahmed “Mel East” Kasana each received $500 fines as well.
Dat Boy Shotz officially serves his suspension next Friday (Apr. 19) for the Talon GC vs. Jazz Gaming matchup. Meanwhile, oFab will serve his suspension on Thursday (Apr. 25) for his team’s game against the 76ers GC.
The Hawks Talon GC squad is currently competing in its first season with Rando their No. 31 pick in this season’s 2K League Draft. Celtics Crossover Gaming has participated in the league since the inaugural season.
