Chris Davis, John Hicks & Jose Ruiz Surge in MLB The Show 19 Ratings

The latest MLB The Show 19 ratings have revealed the most current movers and shakers. Many players are starting to heat up, including one that got off to one of the worst starts in MLB history at the plate.

Davis starting to heat up

One of the best things about baseball is that it is a marathon, not a sprint. While one bad week can bring down a player’s average and rating, a few good games can change that all around.

A perfect example is Baltimore’s power hitter Chris Davis. After Davis failed to get a hit in 50+ at-bats to start the season, he has brought his average up to near .200. After such a horrific start, that is a major improvement.

Davis brought his rating up 8 points in the latest adjustment moving his OVR from 63 to 71 and has hit two home runs since breaking out of his slump.

John Hicks, Jose Ruiz ratings spike

Another player trending upward is Detroit’s John Hicks. Just like Davis, Hicks has improved eight points in his latest rating. The move takes the Tigers utility man from a 68 to a 76 OVR. Hicks has played a big role in the Tigers nice start to the 2019 season.

Not many experts gave Detroit a chance to win over 65 games this year. However, so far the Tigers are sitting at 12-12 and playing good fundamental baseball under Manager Ron Gardenhire.

One more player worth mentioning is Jose Ruiz. Although it has been a rough start for Ruiz, he has come on strong of late.

After a great spring training in which Ruiz compiled a 2.70 ERA in eight outings, he had a rough start to the regular season. Ruiz has since pitched much better of late, thus earning a nice 9-point jump in the latest ratings.

Other players making a nice jump include Kansas City’s Jake Newberry (+9), New York Yankees Stephen Tarpley (+8), Cleveland’s Allen Webster (+9) and Washington’s Tony Sipp (+7).

Players with the biggest decline include Detroit Tigers pitcher Blain Hardy and Los Angeles Angels Cody Allen. They both fell five rating points. Jake Diekman (Royals) and Framber Valdez (Astros) both dropped six points in the latest rating.
