Studio Behind Two Point Hospital Has Been Acquired by SEGA

Two Point Studios, a relatively new UK-based studio, has announced that it has been officially acquired by SEGA. As such, it now joins studios like Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive, and Relic in SEGA’s collection of game development studios. Although Two Point Studios has thus far only released one game, Two Point Hospital, the studio is a successor of Lionhead Studios, which was dissolved in 2016; the studio behind Fable and other well-known titles.

Two Point Studios Has Been Officially Acquired by SEGA

Two Point Studios was founded in mid-2016 by two of Lionhead’s most senior members; Mark Webley and Gary Carr. Webley had been one of the four founders of Lionhead Studios, alongside Peter Molyneux, who left in 2012 to establish 22Cans. Carr, meanwhile, had been Lionhead’s Creative Director. In fact, the new studio emerged just a few months after the closure of Lionhead. Shortly after its founding, it was announced in May of 2017 that Two Point had partnered with SEGA to publish a game which was then in development. This game turned out to be Two Point Hospital; a spiritual successor to Theme Hospital, a 1998 title which Carr and Webley had previously worked on. Two Point Hospital released last year to highly positive reviews and sales success.

Two Point Studios Acquired by SEGA 2

It now seems that Two Point Hospital may have been the studio’s chance to prove themselves to SEGA. Indeed, they certainly seem to have done so, as SEGA has now officially acquired the UK-based studio. The announcement of the new acquisition was made on Two Point’s website; “We’re excited to announce that we are now officially part of the SEGA clan!” writes Jo Koehler; “We’re over the moon to be alongside great teams like Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive, Relic, Hardlight and Amplitude Studios.”

The announcement doesn’t include any details of what the studio is currently working on. However, it certainly does sound as though they have things in the works; “We’re looking forward to executing the next phase of our plans as we continue to evolve Two Point County,” says Mark Webley; “[…] We’ve been working flat out on Two Point Hospital for the past couple of years, and we’re delighted it’s done so well, critically and commercially. We can’t wait to show you more of what we’re planning!”
