During last week’s PlayStation State of the Play event, game publisher IllFonic unveiled its latest project. IllFonic is perhaps best known as the publisher behind the asymmetrical multiplayer title Friday the 13th: The Game. The publisher’s new game is in a similar wheelhouse, only instead of evading Jason Voorhees, players must outsmart The Predator. Oh, and The Predator is being controlled by another player in case you were wondering. Welcome to Predator: Hunting Grounds.
Predator: Hunting Grounds Announcement
Much like Friday the 13th: The Game, Predator: Hunting Grounds will be an asymmetrical 4v1 multiplayer title. However, this time around IllFonic is pitting one supped-up Predator player against a team of heavily-armed spec ops soldier players. The soldier players can wield a litany of firearms including shotguns, assault rifles, SMG’s and sniper rifles. The Predator player, meanwhile, can utilize iconic alien technology like active camo and the Plasmacaster.
Unlike Friday the 13th: The Game, Predator: Hunting Grounds will launch in 2020 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. In an accompanying PlayStation Blog post, IllFonic CEO Charles Brungardt talked about working with both Sony and Fox Entertainment:
“Once we decided on Predator, it was clear this needed to be a shooter that had to look and feel authentic. Our team’s passion for Predator helped us launch the partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Fox. Not only do these powerhouses believe in our vision, which has made this a dream project, they understand what we want to create. They have given us so much to work with and are empowering us to create something new for fans, while expanding the lore of the Predator. Having that quality bar raised by our partners has been a great driver for creating an amazing game.”
Due to an ongoing lawsuit, IllFonic and developer Gun Media had to cease development on Friday the 13th: The Game. Fortunately, they were at least able to roll out dedicated servers and even a Nintendo Switch version.
