Dark Souls Remastered Gets Daughters of Ash Mod

Back in January, Dark Souls modder Grimrukh released an ambitious new mod called Daughters of Ash. The mod uses existing game assets (including cut assets) to basically transform the default Dark Souls experience. This in turn creates an experience that feels fresh even to experienced Dark Souls vets.

However, the mod’s one major caveat was that it wasn’t compatible with the recently released Dark Souls Remastered. Thankfully, the mod’s recent 1.4 launch finally allows Dark Souls Remastered players to take Daughters of Ash for a spin.

Dark Souls Remastered Daughters of Ash

Grimrukh has put up a separate NexusMods link for the Dark Souls Remastered version of Daughters of Ash. Both the Remastered and original Prepare to Die versions have been bumped up to version 1.4. The differences in code between the two game versions means that Grimrukh had to make two separate mod downloads. You can find a link to the Prepare to Die version in our original post above.

Daughters of Ash is an incredibly ambitious Dark Souls mod, as Grimrukh shows in this Reddit post. Interestingly enough, the mod doesn’t use any custom-built assets or other fan mods. Instead, Grimrukh restored a bunch of cut content and tweaked pre-existing content to craft a wholly unique Dark Souls adventure. Some elements may appear the same to experienced players, but looks can be deceiving.

Here’s a brief highlights list of what’s included in the Dark Souls Remastered Daughters of Ash mod:

  • World events, lore items, story paths, and NPC interactions have all be tweaked and bolstered by previously unused content.
  • Entirely new NPC’s with their own questlines and dialogue. In some cases these new NPC’s stories even intersect with existing characters.
  • New standard enemies and boss encounters, all of which have been restored from cut content. The new bosses are meant to highlight unique gameplay mechanics rather than being purely difficult battles.
  • New weapons and weapon abilities, again restored from cut content. These new armaments allow players to experiment with different character builds and combat styles.

Along with Dark Souls Remastered, From Software’s most recent release, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has a booming mod scene of its own. And of course no modding community would be complete without a Thomas the Tank Engine mod like this one.
