After nine long weeks, Destiny 2’s Invitation of the Nine questline is now officially complete. Players who have been keeping up with previous bounties can now visit Xur to pick up the final bounty: Death. The ominous-sounding final bounty is available for nine Legendary Shards as part of Xur’s weekly offerings.
If you haven’t started the Invitation of the Nine bounty questline yet, don’t sweat it. The questline has no time limit, but each of the nine bounties must be done in sequential order. Also the entire Invitation of the Nine questline is only available to Annual Pass owners.
Destiny 2 Death Invitation of the Nine Bounty Walkthrough
For the final Destiny 2 Invitation of the Nine bounty, Bungie has switched things up a bit. All of the previous bounties were strictly PvE focused and involved completing Strikes and killing AI enemies in different locations. For the Death bounty, players must instead venture into Destiny 2’s Crucible PvP playlist.
The Death bounty’s PvP requirements may be disappointing to those who don’t enjoy PvP combat, but there’s a silver lining. You don’t have to worry about dealing with the low metaphysical sample drop rates from previous bounties. Plus, the Death bounty merely requires that you finish certain PvP match types. Win or lose, you still get credit, and as we’ll explain in a moment, there’s actually a way to cheese the system a bit as well.
To complete Destiny 2’s Death bounty requirements you have to complete three separate matches in the Quickplay, Rumble, and Competitive playlists. This seemingly means that you’ll need to complete nine matches in total, but not if you play your cards right. Whether it’s a bug or intentional, Rumble matches actually count as Quickplay matches for the sake of the bounty. This means that if you do the Rumble matches first, you’ll get credit for both Rumble and Quickplay. As a result, your total match requirement falls to six since you only need three Rumble and three Competitive matches.
Another bright spot to consider is that you’ll earn some powerful gear drops via the daily and weekly PvP milestones. Couple that with the powerful gear reward you get for completing the bounty and you’ve got a pretty good haul.
Mystery and Potential
Speaking of rewards, completing the bounty also enables another teaser cutscene for you to watch. As with previous bounties, just activate the Mystery and Potential node from the Gambit subscreen and head through the portal. Your powerful gear reward and the new lore cutscene will be waiting for you.
If you need guides for previous Destiny 2 bounties, we’ve covered them all including Strength and The Hangman.
