Dying Light 2 Won’t Come To Nintendo Switch, Will Likely Support Mods

Dying Light 2 developer Techland has been pretty quiet since it initially unveiled the zombie-parkour sequel during last year’s E3. However, the studio’s chief technical officer, Pawel Rohleder, recently offered up some interesting new details about the game. Rohleder had some good news for PC gamers, and some not-so-good news for Nintendo Switch owners. However, fans of Nintendo’s latest console might also have a silver lining to look forward to.

Dying Light 2 Nintendo Switch and Mods Status

Dying Light 2 no Nintendo Switch version

Rohleder recently sat down with WCCFTech for an in-depth interview regarding Dying Light 2. During the interview, Rohleder commented on potential mod support for the sequel. He stopped short of outright confirming it, but his response still sounds very promising for fans of custom mods:

“I think at this point it’s too early to really think about that. But yes, we are supporting our players and our content creators, like previous titles. So this is definitely something to consider for sure.”

Unfortunately, the insights Rohleder shared weren’t so comforting for Nintendo Switch owners. Due to the Switch’s hardware limitations, Dying Light 2 won’t be coming to Nintendo’s newest console. Granted, this isn’t the first time the Nintendo Switch has been passed up due to hardware limitations. And given how much Techland has advanced its in-house C-Engine, it’s honestly not surprising that the Switch couldn’t handle it:

“So after Dying Light was released, we made a lot of changes to our technology,” said Rohleder. “I counted 16 new systems, in addition to introducing streaming, introducing new content generation tools, a new animation system, UI system, [and a] new quest system with choices and consequences.”

After ruling out Nintendo Switch support, Rohleder did offer a token follow-up for Nintendo fans. While he couldn’t provide any details, Rohleder said that Techland might have a surprise for Switch owners later this year. What that surprise might be is anyone’s guess at this point, so let the speculation commence.
