Subscription services are all the rage nowadays among video game companies, so it comes as little surprise that Ubisoft wants a slice of the pie. At Ubisoft’s E3 panel, the company announced its new subscription service for video games, called Uplay+. This can also be spelled “Uplay Plus.”
What is the Uplay+ Subscription Service?
Like other video game subscription services, Uplay+ allows gamers to pay a subscription fee in exchange for access to a large number of games. To start with, there will be over 100 games available to enjoy. Subscribers will get full access not just to the main games, but also to all of their DLC and expansion packs.
The service is aimed at customers who are gaming with PC and Google Stadia. The cost of the service is a whopping $14.99 per month, and it will go live on September 3rd. Note that if you want to use the service with Stadia, you will also need to pay the base subscription fee for Stadia as well.
But if you are not familiar with other subscription services for video games, you may not be aware of just how hefty a price tag that is. For comparison, you can enjoy the Xbox Game Pass for just $9.99 per month. And even that is expensive compared to the EA/Origin Access pass which costs just $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year.
Actually, there is a Microsoft subscription service which does cost $14.99, which is the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. That includes the Xbox Game Pass on Xbox and PC as well as an Xbox Live Gold subscription. So while that costs a lot more than the regular Xbox Game Pass, it packs in a lot of value.
So, which is the better deal? Well, that really comes down to what you are looking for in a video game subscription service. So, what games do you want to play? That pretty much is going to establish the top value.
But that being said, shelling out $14.99 to Ubisoft is sure a big ask compared to paying just $4.99 for an EA/Origin Access subscription. It will be interesting to see if Ubisoft is able to hold this high price point or not based on customer demand.
