Confirming rumours which had leaked ahead of schedule, Gearbox has now officially announced (and simultaneously released) a brand-new Borderlands 2 DLC; Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary. The DLC is intended to serve as a prologue to the story of Borderlands 3, which is due to release in three months’ time.
Borderlands 2 DLC: Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary
Rumours that Gearbox would be releasing a new Borderlands 2 DLC at E3 began to circulate around two weeks ago. The rumour was first reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, who had learned as much from a “trusted anonymous source”. That rumour has now been proven accurate. During the studio’s E3 presentation, Gearbox formally announced their new Borderlands 2 DLC. Additionally, the DLC was immediately released following the announcement and is now available to play. Best of all, it’s free for anybody who already owns Borderlands 2 or The Handsome Collection. This free offer ends on the 8th of July, however, so fans should download it ASAP.
“Return to the award-winning shooter-looter Borderlands 2 for an all-new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3,” says Gearbox; “Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary is available now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and is free for owners of Borderlands 2 or Borderlands: The Handsome Collection until July 8.”
The new DLC should hopefully sate Borderlands fans for the next few months as Gearbox prepares for the release of their next game. Borderlands 3 is due to release on the 13th of September, almost exactly three months from now. Interestingly, this new DLC is the first new Borderlands 2 DLC to release since Headhunter 5: Son of Crawmerax. That DLC was launched almost more than five years ago, on the 15th of April, 2014!
At present, not much is known about the story of Borderlands 3. It will reportedly span more than 30 hours in-game; at least as long as Borderlands 2, but possibly longer. Hopefully, the new DLC will answer some key questions and set the stage for the upcoming release!
