Destiny 2’s Season of Opulence mainly revolves around the new Menagerie activity and accompanying Chalice of Opulence item. However, to take full advantage of the Chalice, players need to upgrade it using a new currency called Imperials. It’s not very clear how players can earn Imperials, which is why we decided to whip up this quick guide.
Destiny 2 How to Earn Chalice of Opulence Imperials
The good news is that there are several methods for reliably obtaining Imperials in Destiny 2 each week. The bad news is that each and every method requires no small amount of investment (either in time or Glimmer). Some methods also can’t be utilized until you first unlock specific nodes on the Chalice. This means that you should prioritize certain Chalice unlocks if you want to fully streamline your Imperial gathering efforts.
Weekly Opulence Bounties
If you’re just starting your Chalice of Opulence upgrade efforts, you should focus on the new Opulence weekly bounties. You can pick these four weekly bounties up either from Benedict 99-40 in the Tower or Werner 99-40 on Nessus. Every bounty is a protracted weekly bounty, so don’t worry about rushing through them all at once.
Of course, simply completing a weekly bounty isn’t quite enough to earn its associated rewards. Completing the bounty instead grants a treasure map which marks a location on a specific planet. Head to that location and you’ll find a golden chest containing your rewards. Each weekly bounty chest contains a Chalice rune, a powerful gear drop, and 150 Imperials.
If you complete all four bounties in a given week, you’ll earn a bonus cache of 150 Imperials. This means you can earn 750 Imperials per week per character if you don’t mind grinding through all four bounties.
Nessus Barge Chests
The very first node you should unlock on your Chalice is the first node in the Power and Efficiency category. Doing so unlocks the Tithe Chests on Calus’ Barge on Nessus (the same barge where you can find Werner 99-40). Each Tithe Chest costs 5,000 Glimmer to open, a steep cost to be sure. However, each opened chest also awards a Chalice rune and 150 Imperials. If you need a few Imperials fast and you’ve got Glimmer to burn, this is your best option by far.
Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Triumphs
If you look at your Triumphs tab, you’ll notice a whole new category of Season of Opulence Triumphs. These Triumphs are worth completing since each completed Triumph awards a one-time boon of 500 Imperials. In fact, this is yet another reason why you should focus on completing the new Opulence weekly bounties. Each weekly bounty treasure chest has an associated Triumph. This means that you’ll actually gain 650 Imperials the first time you complete each weekly bounty.
Most of the new Opulence Triumphs are also associated with the Menagerie activity. If your team is skilled enough to complete specific Menagerie activities under certain conditions, you’ll unlock their associated Triumphs.
Wealth of the Emperor Consumable
The second Chalice node you should unlock is the second node in the Power and Efficiency track. Doing so allows you to purchase a ‘Wealth of the Emperor’ consumable from Benedict 99-40 or Werner 99-40. When you use the consumable, you have a chance of earning a cache of 500 Imperials from the following activities:
- Vanguard strikes
- Crucible PvP matches
- Gambit matches
- The Menagerie
The consumable’s effects last until you earn the Imperials, so again there’s no need to rush. Each Wealth of the Emperor consumable costs a mere 1,500 Glimmer and 10 Legendary Shards. If you’re already chasing other Destiny 2 activity milestones, it can pay to stock up on consumables before you head out. For more on the Season of Opulence, check out Bungie’s official overview page.
