Rebellion Announces Cult-Classic Sequel Evil Genius 2 at E3 2019

Evil Genius is unlikely to be a franchise which many gamers are familiar with. After all, only one Evil Genius game was ever released, all the way back in 2004. Now, after a long and troubled interim, UK studio Rebellion is reviving the long-defunct franchise with Evil Genius 2: World Domination; a brand-new lair building title announced at E3 2019.

What We Know About Evil Genius 2: World Domination So Far

“Evil Genius 2 is a satirical spy-fi lair builder,” explains Rebellion; “where players take control of an Evil Genius and set their plans for world domination in motion. When it feels this good to be bad, the Forces of Justice don’t stand a chance!”

The original Evil Genius first released in 2004, to widespread positive reviews. It quickly gained an audience on PC, and the game has since become something of a cult-classic. However, despite plans for a sequel, the franchise was brought to an abrupt halt when its developer, Elixir Studios, shut down in 2005. For four years, rights to the franchise were held by publisher Vivendi. Then, the company sold them to Rebellion in 2009. However, despite the acquisition, the franchise remained dormant for a further eight years. Finally, Rebellion announced that they had begun early development on a new Evil Genius game in early 2017.

Evil Genius 2 Trailer Revealed at E3 2

Now, more than two years later, gamers finally got their first look at the long-awaited sequel; Evil Genius 2: World Domination. The game doesn’t have a release date yet, although Steam lists a planned release date of “2020”. According to the game description, the sequel will include most of the features of the original, though it’s likely to be much larger. Players will design and build their own villainous lairs, recruit henchmen, and set out on dastardly missions around the globe, all while fending off attacks from the Forces of Justice. The game looks set to be just as over-the-top as it ought to be, with missions like selling the British Royal Family and even to “literally BAKE ALASKA!”
