Santa Monica Studios Actively Hiring Roles for God of War?

Although it hasn’t been formally announced, it’s not exactly a secret that Santa Monica Studios is working on a sequel to 2018’s God of War. The game won over 190 different Game of the Year awards, after all; it’d be a lot more surprising if they weren’t developing a sequel. Recently, Santa Monica Studios posted several new job listings, and they aren’t even attempting to hide that they’re related to God of War.

Santa Monica Studios Appears to be Hiring for the Next God of War

Of course, there remains no official confirmation that the next God of War is actually in development. However, among the new job listings are prerequisites like the following; “Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to speak about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies.” Certainly, that seems a pretty clear indication that the studio is hiring new staff as they prepare for upcoming development. Either that, or the studio is developing a totally different game that just happens to have very similar mechanics to God of War.

Santa Monica Studios didn’t make an appearance at E3 this year, which isn’t exactly surprising. After all, God of War only came out last year, and that game took years to develop. Hopefully, a sequel won’t take quite as long, as much of the development time for the 2018 title resulted from the studio building a brand-new game engine. Now that the engine exists, development on a sequel shouldn’t take quite as long. Nevertheless, a 2-3 year development time would make sense. As such, it’s highly unlikely that the studio has much to show publicly right now. (Or indeed, anytime soon.)

Indeed, fans aren’t likely to hear much about the next God of War until perhaps E3 2020, at the earliest. No doubt there will be occasional rumours like this, but truly substantial news is unlikely to release for months.
