Madden 20 Player Ratings: Top 10 NFL Kickers & Punters in the Game
In terms of the recent Madden 20 player ratings, plenty of discussion rages on about which players were overlooked in the game. Most of those debates involve who should have been in the Madden 99 Club, or which players were rated too high or low. While a lot of that is associated with rookies, quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, and defenders, there’s another overlooked category. Here’s our look at the top 10 special teams players in the Madden 20 ratings.
Tucker, Hekker lead Madden 20 player ratings for kickers & punters
For the purposes of this breakdown, we’re looking at the kickers and punters in Madden 20. There’s no question who rates at the top of these players, either. The Baltimore Ravens’ Justin Tucker has developed a reputation as the league’s best kicker. His 87 overall in the Madden 20 player ratings makes perfect sense and he’s not far off from hitting that 90 OVR.
In 2018, Tucker attempted 39 field goals and made 35. He only missed one of the 37 extra points he attempted. Tucker was second in the NFL in scoring as he tallied 141 points for the Ravens. Only Houston’s Ka’imi Fairbarn scored more, with 150.
His season also resulted in being named First-Team All-Pro for the third time in his career. Tucker holds a 98 rating for both his Kick Power and Kick Accuracy, which is nearly perfect. It all makes sense as he’s the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL.
The Los Angeles Rams’ Johnny Hekker ranks above all punters. The 6-foot-5 star wasn’t First-Team All-Pro last season, but achieved that distinction for three-straight seasons before that. Hekker had 43 punts last season for a total of 1,992 yards. That’s the lowest output of his career, but Hekker has a career average of just over 68 yards per punt.
Robbie Gould is No. 2 in the Madden 20 player ratings for kickers. The San Francisco 49ers added the star kicker this offseason for a team that could surprise fans in their coming campaign. He ranked No. 9 in terms of points scored last season. Gould racked up 126 from his 33 field goals and 27 extra points. San Francisco is hoping for a healthy quarterback to get the ball near or to the end zone. That should allow Gould to score a few points.
For punters, the Ravens have the second-best player there with Sam Koch. His awareness (73) rates higher than all other players on the top 10 Madden punters list. Koch boasts an 85 overall in Madden 20, making him just one of eight punters with an 80 or better OVR. Keep in mind, this guy can do a bit more than just pin teams back with deep kicks. He’s also fully capable of trick plays and helping on defense.
When it comes down to it, these may seem like less important than having high-rated offensive personnel or impressive defenders. However, having accurate kickers from long distances and punters capable of keeping the team far down the field goes a long way for your Madden Ultimate Team. Unless you’re adding player cards for all-time kicking legends, consider using the best of the best in the NFL today.
