The NBA 2K League Playoffs 2019 officially tipped off with matchups on Wednesday, July 24. Already, the top two teams have been upset in stunning fashion as underdog squads advanced to the semifinals. While Blazer5 and Mavs Gaming held the top two seeds going into the tournament, they’ll now watch as the rest of the field competes for the 2019 title.
Warriors upset Blazer5 to open NBA 2K League Playoffs 2019
The opening matchup of the NBA 2K League Playoffs 2019 brought the dominant Blazer5 team as the top overall seed. Blazer5 was also the biggest favorite in the 2K League playoff odds heading into their game. However, Warriors Gaming showed why record doesn’t mean much at all when it comes to winning the NBA 2K League tournaments.
The Warriors squad qualified for the playoffs thanks to their win at THE TICKET and then stunned a team which lost just twice all season. On Wednesday night, Warriors Gaming defeated Blazer5, 67-45 in one game and by a final of 61-55 in the other.
Warriors dominated their lopsided 67-45 victory from the first quarter, as they opened with a 28-7 lead. By halftime, that lead was 42-28. While the second half went in favor of Blazer5 27-25, it was too little to make a comeback. Power forward Jin led the scoring effort with 20 points. Type added a double-double of 12 points and 20 rebounds in the win.
After Warriors advanced to the semifinals, Alex Giaimo talked to Intel Player of the Game Type about what it took to pull off the amazing upset.
Celtics Crossover eliminates Mavs Gaming
In the other opening best-of-three series, Celtics Crossover Gaming won the first two games against No. 2 seed Mavs Gaming. In Game 1, Celtics Crossover defeated Mavs Gaming, 63-55 behind 22 points and 11 assists from oFAB. No xAutographsx also chipped in 14 points while grabbing 13 rebounds in the win.
Game 2 saw Celtics Crossover win the game 68-53 to take the series. oFab, who is amongst NBA 2K League MVP contenders, put in a 24 points and 14 assist performance to lead the way in the clincher. He also spoke with Alex Giaimo following his team’s upset over one of the top teams in this year’s playoffs.
With the victories, the Warriors and Celtics 2K teams move on to the semifinals. They’ll now await their opponents for the next round. The Warriors play the winner of the TWolves vs. Kings matchup while CCG plays the winner of the 76ers GC vs. Pacers Gaming matchup.
The NBA 2K Playoffs 2019 games resume on Thursday, July 25. The No. 6 seed Pacers Gaming takes on No. 3 seed 76ers GC starting at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. Game 2 is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with Game 3 “if necessary.”
At 6 p.m. ET, Kings Guard Gaming takes on T-Wolves Gaming for their first game. The second game of the series takes place at 8 p.m. ET with Game 3 for 10 p.m. ET, if necessary.
