Huge Apex Legends Performance Drop Reported by Players

Following the release of the latest Apex Legends update, players have begun reporting a severe drop in the game’s performance. At present, the exact cause of this Apex Legends performance drop are unknown; many fans are speculating on the game’s subReddit as to potential causes. However, Respawn has yet to address the issue.

Apex Legends Performance Drop Caused by Latest Update?

Respawn is currently preparing for the launch of Season 3, together with their second Ranked League series. As such, the latest patch was speculated to be preparation for a larger update coming on the 1st of October. However, something in that update seems to have had a severe negative effect on the game for at least some players. While many comments on the Apex Legends subReddit and elsewhere are complaining about stuttering and framerate drops on the game’s PC version, Xbox and PS4 players also appear to be suffering from problems.

Apex Legends Performance Drop Reported

Unfortunately, Respawn itself has not offered players any explanation for what may be going on. Hopefully the studio is aware of the problem and is able to roll out a fix with the launch of Season 3. Otherwise, the new season launch may not go nearly as well as the studio is hoping. It’s likely that Respawn is hoping to market Apex Legends widely with the Season 3 launch. A few weeks after the launch, in the middle of October, the studio will be launching two new retail versions of the game; a clear attempt to attract new players now that the game has new content.

If new players are put off by poor Apex Legends performance, however, that promotional effort could very quickly backfire. Thus far, Respawn has not commented on the problem. However, they did recently state that they would improve communication with players, so they may do so soon. (Following the PR debacle that was the Iron Crown Collection event.)
