Earlier today, Infinity Ward and Activision released a behind-the-scenes video follow-up to their recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare story trailer. The video delved further into the game’s narrative and design, but crucially, it also teased the identities of the three playable characters; Alex, Farah Karim, and Kyle Garrick.
The Three Playable Characters in the Modern Warfare Story Mode
The first of the playable characters in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare story campaign is Sergeant Kyle Garrick. A member of the SAS, Garrick starts the game working on a counter-terrorism assignment in London. The behind-the-scenes video shows him speaking with Captain Price on several occasions; suggesting that he will be under Price’s command within the SAS. Indeed, Activision has said that he; “joins Captain Price to engage the enemy in a widening series of clandestine operations across continents, as the theatre of war expands, and the global balance of power is threatened.”
Second among the playable characters is Alex; a CIA operative who is working with the ULF (Urzikstani Liberation Force) in Urzikstan. At present, we know relatively little about his role in the story. However, it seems that he may clash with the third playable character when it comes to the actions they are willing to take in pursuit of victory. That third character is Farah Karim, Commander of the ULF. In the behind-the-scenes video, she is described as thinking; “I am only willing to do what is honourable. I would rather lose than win by doing something dishonourable.”
These three characters’ stories will intertwine as part of a larger search for stolen chemical weapons following a terrorist attack in London, according to Activision. However, it is of course currently unknown how the story will play out from that premise and inciting event. Fans will have to wait for the game’s release on the 25th of October to find out for themselves.
