Earlier this week, Treyarch launched Operation Dark Divide, the sixth season of post-launch content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. In addition to the new Black Market content and Tag Der Toten, the Operation also includes two new maps; Lair and Launch. The latter of these two, the Black Ops 4 Launch map, is now playable on the PlayStation 4. While it isn’t yet available on other platforms, it should be playable relatively soon.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Launch Map
Launch is the first of the two new Black Ops 4 maps included with Operation Dark Divide. (Although, it’s possible that Treyarch may launch a map variant or two later in the season in addition to what has already been announced.) Interestingly, the Black Ops 4 Launch map is actually inspired by a much older map from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.
“In the Black Ops flashback map Launch,” explains Treyarch; “US covert operatives have gone behind enemy lines, to the heart of Russia, in order to halt a Soviet nuclear missile launch. Journey back to a heroic battle of good against evil where the Specialists fight under the cover of darkness to stop a nuclear missile launch that could have catastrophic consequences.”
Like Lair, the other new map in Operation Dark Divide, the centre of Launch is very much the focal point of the action. A central lane runs through the map, featuring options for verticality and frontline combat. However, players in this area are at risk of being blasted away if the missile launches. To avoid this, players need to head for the stairwells on each side of the area. These areas favour close-quarters fighting, however, which make them risky places to venture unprepared. As of today, Launch is now available to play on PS4. (As per usual, slightly ahead of other platforms, which should get the map in a few days’ time.)
