Did you hear the recent rumor that there is going to be a brand new camera for the Xbox Scarlett, and that Microsoft is working on it now? Well, if that was something you were excited about, we are sorry to disappoint you. But Microsoft was swift to refute the claim, and says that no such camera is under development.
What Microsoft Said About the Rumored Xbox Scarlett Camera
It was Gizmodo that first claimed that Microsoft was working on the camera. In the same report, the site also mentioned a number of other apparent details concerning the next gen console. All of those were always questionable, but now, they are even more so.
Microsoft apparently reached out directly to Gizmodo to issue the correction. Gizmodo then posted an update which reads, “A Microsoft spokesman denied any camera technology is in development and that none has been delivered to developers in any form.”
So, does this mean that we won’t be getting a camera to use with Xbox Scarlett? Not necessarily. It just means Microsoft is not specifically working on one for the console. Considering that Kinect has been less and less a priority for the company and VR seems to be more or less off its radar, a special camera doesn’t seem like it would be profoundly important.
Keep in mind that while this inaccuracy casts doubt on the rest of Gizmodo’s report, it does not definitively prove that the rest of what was in the report was wrong. Microsoft didn’t comment on anything else that the report “revealed.” But that doesn’t confirm that the other rumors are true either.
What else have we been hearing about Xbox Scarlett? According to a developer, it sounds like the next Xbox console as well as the PS5 should load large battles more smoothly than current consoles. We have also heard that Xbox Scarlett will focus on “frame rate and playability.” Meanwhile, Microsoft is turning its attention to single player games.
