As many have suspected for some time, and which some leaks appeared to indicate, Fortnite has undergone something of an upheaval with its ‘The End’ event. In fact, the game’s iconic map may be gone for good, with the players transported somewhere else (somewhere yet to be revealed). As it stands, the Fortnite The End event may be giving the game a blank slate ready for the launch of Chapter 2.
What Happened During the Fortnite The End Event
Today’s Fortnite The End event, much like other Fortnite events in the past, heralded big changes for the game’s map. However, in this case, it may have done away with it for good. At the culmination of the event, a missile was sent skyward, triggering rifts to seemingly pull away the game’s players. Those left in the game were reportedly able to play a mini-game, but the iconic Fortnite map was gone.
It’s highly likely that this dramatic change is the transition to the so-called Fortnite Chapter 2; touted as the game’s largest-ever update, as the title indicates. A key aspect of Chapter 2 is reportedly a completely new map, and it seems as though today’s event are setting the stage for the reveal of that map. It’s likely that this reveal will be coming very soon, now that The End event has concluded.
Of course, as per usual, Epic Games is being suitably cryptic with their announcements and teasers. After all, the studio rarely makes its long-term plans known for Fortnite until shortly before changes arrive. This latest event has certainly helped to stoke fan hype ahead of the launch of Chapter 2; no doubt its primary objective, in much the same way as previous such events. For now, fans will have to wait and see what is in store for Fortnite in Chapter 2. Rumours hint at new mechanics, such as boats, in addition to a brand-new map.
