Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has now been out for almost a full day, and in that time, it seems that Activision and Infinity Ward have managed to mostly address the server instability which occurred immediately following launch. Last night, as the game went live, the game’s servers were overwhelmed by the sudden influx of new players, making it difficult for many players to actually get into the game. Infinity Ward posted a message thanking players for their patience earlier today.
Launch Issues With the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Servers
As has become increasingly common with triple-A multiplayer releases in recent years, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare servers had issues almost immediately upon launch. For a game like Modern Warfare, with its massive audience, such instability was extremely likely. After all, launch traffic is often much higher than a game’s normal rate of traffic. After all, servers don’t normally have to handle hundreds of thousands of players all attempting to log in at once.
While the influx of players did overwhelm the servers for a while, frustrating players’ attempts to get stuck into the new game, it seems that Infinity Ward was able to address most of the issues quite quickly. In all likelihood, the studio was anticipating problems of this sort; after all, most big multiplayer games struggle with this exact same problem immediately upon launch. The studio thanked players for their patience and also apologised for the delay; a message which should hopefully assuage any frustrations that players had. (Provided the issues are actually fixed, of course!)

As with any new title, players can expect to hear about (or encounter for themselves) the odd bug during the game’s first few days and weeks. Infinity Ward released the game’s first patch this morning, however, suggesting that bug-fixing will be a key post-launch priority. Hopefully, the game doesn’t have too many problems. After all, the general tolerance for bugs among gamers is very low at present; a state which is largely the result of disastrous launches in 2018 for games like Fallout 76 and Battlefield 5.
