The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 season pass has been revealed, and it’s called the Black Ops Pass, as we brought you just a few days ago. But while its existence is being celebrated by some fans as a way to experience more awesome Black Ops content, there’s a side to it that gamers anticipating the game’s release probably haven’t even noticed yet. According to a new FAQ written by Activision Support for the upcoming Black Ops Pass, you won’t be able to purchase any type of content that comes with the pass individually.
According to the FAQ, you must purchase the Black Ops Pass as a “bundle.” The support page specifically states that, in a response to the question Will I be able to buy parts of Black Ops Pass content individually, like DLC Map Packs from previous Call of Duty games?” that the answer is “No.” Specifically, it explains “The contents included in Black Ops Pass may only be purchased as a bundle.”
This is a massive change from the way things previously were, because it’s always been a no-brainer that you should be able to purchase content piecemeal if it’s part of a pass. But if you want to play what’s in the Black Ops Pass, it looks like you’re being forced to purchase the whole shebang to get the following items:
- Classified – a new Zombies map, available at launch
- 12 Multiplayer maps to be released during the post launch content season
- 4 Zombies maps to be released during the post launch content season
- 4 Exclusive Blackout characters
Unfortunately, you can’t even purchase the Black Ops Pass on its own at the moment. You’d need to instead pick up the Digital Deluxe, Digital Deluxe Enhanced, or Pro Edition to get your hands on it if you want it. According to the Support article, even after the game releases, you’ll have to upgrade your copy to the Digital Deluxe or Digital Deluxe Enhanced editions if you want the pass, which sounds like a bit of a racket.
Do you think you’ll be interested in the Black Ops Pass with these new and restrictive caveats in mind?
