In one of the game’s first post-launch content releases, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players have gotten more than just bug-fixes and balancing tweaks in the latest patch. In addition to the usual changes, Infinity Ward has released two new Modern Warfare Spec Ops missions as part of the patch; Brimstone and Harbinger. The patch also introduces a new Spec Ops rating system, new rewards, and new multiplayer modes.
The Latest Modern Warfare Patch: Spec Ops Missions and More
Released earlier today by Infinity Ward, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare patch is one of the largest to have been released since the launch of the game, at least in terms of how much content is packed into it. The headline feature is of course the addition of two new Spec Ops missions. Entitled “Brimstone” and “Harbinger,” these missions are now available for players to try out. Plus, the patch introduces a 3-star rating system for Spec Ops which ranks players based on how long it took them to complete a mission. There are also new XP & MP unlocks which players can get when they earn certain star ratings on Spec Ops missions.
On the multiplayer side of things, Infinity Ward is adding two new game modes to Modern Warfare. Gun Game should be familiar to any long-time Call of Duty player. Meanwhile, the new Realism Moshpit features Domination, Hardpoint, Headquarters, and Kill Confirmed. Of course, this being a patch first and foremost, the update also includes plenty of general tweaks and fixes. Exploits have been removed, spawn bugs fixed, etc. A few key changes include the addition of an “Always Sprint” option, adjustments for footstep volume while crouch-walking and aiming down sights, and a reduction in how long execution animations play. The full patch notes are available here.
In addition to getting new missions and features, the Spec Ops mode also got a few changes. Munition drops will now appear as care packages which drop after players complete in-game objectives, for instance. When it comes to audio, Infinity Ward has added three separate audio options. No Effect will be the default voice chat. However, players can now select either Stealth Comms or Classic Chatter. The former adds “SAS radio effects to voice chat,” while the latter adds classic radio effects instead. Of course, the patch also includes numerous tweaks and alterations to the game’s weapons; check out the details here.
