Borderlands 3 may have been out for over three months already on consoles and PC, but today it launches on another platform; Stadia. It’s even launching at a discount price until the 7th of January. However, there are a few caveats. The Borderlands 3 Stadia version lags behind the current version on other platforms by several updates. Furthermore, it won’t be getting Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite or the upcoming story DLC, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, until “early 2020”.
The Borderlands 3 Stadia Edition is Now Available
“At launch, the Stadia version of the game will reflect all updates and fixes that were released through October 24,” states a 2K press release; “Noteworthy features coming to the Stadia version of Borderlands 3 expected in early 2020 include endgame content like the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite and Mayhem 4 difficulty, dedicated loot pools for bosses, and additional bank space. The first Borderlands 3 campaign add-on, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, is also expected to launch on Stadia in early 2020.”
So, on the one hand, Stadia users can now play Borderlands 3; one of the best-selling releases of 2020. However, it seems as though, at least for now, the Borderlands 3 Stadia version will be months behind the PC and console versions. All of the features listed in the press release are already available on PC and consoles. (The one exception of course, is the campaign add-on. However, that is launching in two days’ time.)
Of course, it’s unfortunate that the game won’t be getting new content until months after the main version. However, the more frustrating part for players may well be that, for months, they’ll have to put up with bugs and balancing issues which have already been fixed. Gearbox has been releasing regular hotfixes for Borderlands 3 since launch. As a result, the game as it is today has had quite a few improvements since the 24th of October. Fortunately, it seems as though this is simply a one-time delay. Gearbox reportedly hopes to “achieve feature parity for all versions of Borderlands 3 early in 2020.”
