Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, the first big Borderlands 3 DLC, may have released only a couple of days ago, but Gearbox has already announced their next upcoming event; a limited-time New Year’s event which will make it possible to take on the Borderlands 3 Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite solo. (Or with 2-3 players, instead of the usual party of 4.)
The Upcoming Limited-Time Borderlands 3 Takedown Event
Support for this upcoming event was introduced in the latest Borderlands 3 update, and the event itself is set to begin on the 31st of December. It will only be playable for a couple of weeks, however, ending on the 16th of January. During that time, players will be able to enter the Borderlands 3 Takedown without needing a full party of four. Ordinarily, this wouldn’t be possible; not just because the Takedown won’t let you start without matchmaking you into a full party, but because the mission is scaled for four players and taking it on solo would be extraordinarily difficult.
During this upcoming event, the scaling in the Takedown will get some adjustments. Specifically, the mission will scale its difficulty appropriately for 1-3 players instead of the usual 4. Of course, it will still be an endgame activity for level 50 characters! As such, don’t think you can jump in at low level, as you can with the new DLC. If you’ve wanted to play the Borderlands 3 Takedown solo, this should be the perfect opportunity to do so.
For now at least, this will be the only time players can try the Takedown like this. However, given that Gearbox have said that more Takedowns will be coming in 2020, it’s possible that this event could actually be a trial of sorts. Perhaps the studio hopes to run similar events in future, or even make this sort of scaling a permanent option; after all, not everybody has enough friends with the game to make up a full four-person party. Indeed, those people may not want to matchmake with strangers either. For now, fans will have to wait and see what 2020 brings.
