The year may be about to end, but that doesn’t mean Gearbox can’t fit in one final Borderlands 3 event before it concludes. Following the recent release of Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, the game’s first story DLC, the studio is planning to hold a time-limited Borderlands 3 Takedown event which will allow players to tackle the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite in totally new ways, including solo.
The Upcoming Borderlands 3 Takedown Event
The upcoming Borderlands 3 Takedown event is due to begin at 9:00 AM PST on the 31st of December. It will continue until the same time on the 16th of January. During that time, Gearbox will be changing the way that scaling and matchmaking works for the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite; an endgame activity for level 50 players added to the game last month. Until now, it has only been possible to do the Takedown with a team of four players. Indeed, the mission features its own matchmaking system in order to ensure that this is the case. However, this new event will let players undertake it with 1-4 players instead.
Of course, while the scaling may allow players to do the Takedown with fewer people, it will still be very difficult to complete. Indeed, the Takedown’s unique respawning mechanics alone will ensure that it remains a significant challenge. (Especially for those tackling it solo.) However, if you don’t have three friends to play through the mission with, this will be your first opportunity to do it without having to matchmake with strangers. As such, if you’ve avoided the Takedown until now for that reason, you may wish to try it while you have the opportunity.
The event will start when Gearbox releases a hotfix enabling it. As such, you’ll need to download that hotfix before you can start. You should see a message that reads; “hotfixes applied,” on the main menu once it has been downloaded. At present, it’s unknown whether Gearbox plans to run events of this sort in the future. However, it is certainly possible that this is a trial run for an event format which could be repeated. Of course, Gearbox is planning to release more Takedowns in 2020. As such, this event may well return in some form after the release of the next one.
