Modern Warfare is the Most Played Call of Duty on Xbox One and PS4
At launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare certainly sold well, although it didn’t necessarily surpass the records set by previous titles. However, it seems that the game’s sales have continued to be strong past launch week. According to Activision, the game may have set a significant new record; becoming the most-played Call of Duty of this console generation.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PS4 and Xbox One Versions Break New Record
On a recent investors’ call, Activision revealed that Modern Warfare has now surpassed sales profits of $1 billion; a fairly massive achievement even for a Call of Duty title. However, the game has broken several records relating to how much gamers played it. According to Activision, in the game’s first 50 days, Modern Warfare accrued more hours played on consoles than any other Call of Duty title released on the Xbox One or PS4. In fact, it also got the highest amount of average daily players. Plus, it even has the highest figure for average hours played per player.
Of course, this means that more people are sticking with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare past launch. However, it also means that they’re playing for longer sessions, on average. All of this suggests that Activision’s approach of delivering regular new content through a live-service model has been successful. “The momentum for Modern Warfare from day one has been incredible,” said Call of Duty general manager Byron Beede; “Players are having a great time and are continuing to engage across the multiplayer experience at the highest level in years.”
All told, the Modern Warfare PS4 and Xbox One versions have seen stronger performance in these areas than any other Call of Duty of this console generation. That includes Call of Duty: Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops III, Infinite Warfare, WWII, and Black Ops 4; certainly no meagre competition for the latest release. With new content on the way as part of Season One in 2020, and more seasons to follow after that (not to mention Battle Royale…), Modern Warfare’s success is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
