All told, the decade between 2010 and the end of 2019 has been one full with massive game releases. However, throughout that time, there have been a few releases which stuck in the collective gaming psyche more than others, and both Metacritic and PlayStation recently ran polls to see what their audiences thought was the best game of the entire decade. As it happens, gamers appear to be of one mind on this question, because both poll results put The Last of Us in the #1 spot!

Gamers’ Picks for Best Games of the Decade

The Metacritic poll results were the first to release, and in their poll, the site asked gamers to pick both their top 15 games of 2019 and their top 10 games of the decade. Resident Evil 2 came in at #1 for 2019, just ahead of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, while Death Stranding was a more distant third. However, when it came to the decade, gamers had a totally different set of picks; not one of the games listed as top 15 of 2019 were in the second list.

The Last of Us (and by extension, The Last of Us Remastered) dominated that list, with almost twice as many votes as the second place title; The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The third-place spot went to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, while Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mass Effect 2 took #4 and #5, respectively.

Earlier today, the official PlayStation Blog revealed the results of their own poll. Of course, PlayStation users are likely to have a slight bias towards PlayStation titles, and indeed, the title is filled with major PlayStation exclusives. However, as it happens, there is also a lot of correlation with the Metacritic results. Both lists named The Last of Us as Best Game of the Decade, for example. However, both lists also include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Bloodborne, Skyrim, Dark Souls, and God of War. In fact, the two lists even have The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne in the same places, at #3 and #8, respectively. Evidently, a lot of these games have left lasting impressions on many members of the gaming audience.
