IGN Japan’s Shin Imai Predicts That PS5 Will Cost Less Than Xbox Series X

We keep hearing about the amazing performance we can expect from PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. But how much will each of these next gen consoles cost at launch? We’ve heard a range of predictions over the past year or so, but now, IGN Japan editor-in-chief Shin Imai has chimed in with his own prediction.

What Shin Imai Said About the Relative Costs of the Two Next Gen Consoles

Imai was speaking during a livestream when he commented on the potential pricing for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Translating his remarks, ComicBook.com quoted him as saying, “The Xbox Series X is doubtless aiming for much greater performance than the PS5. There are some differences in specs, and PS5 aims be cheaper than the Xbox Series X as a result.”

Considering that Xbox One was more expensive than PlayStation 4, it does seem plausible that the same trend would occur this year. Though if events follow suit entirely, we might also be looking at a PS5 which is more powerful than the next Xbox.

We are bound to hear a fair amount of additional speculation regarding both the pricing and the capabilities of both the forthcoming consoles. But we should be taking most of what we hear with a grain of salt. Just think how many reports have clashed with each other even from reputable sources.

Another big question on a lot of peoples’ minds right now is whether or not Sony and Microsoft will delay the release window for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The concern is that Coronavirus could get in the way of timely manufacturing and distribution. As a result, we could get the next gen consoles late.

When we learn more about the specs, pricing and release window for PS5 and Xbox Series X, we will update you in our PlayStation news section.
