The NBA All-Star Weekend came to a thrilling conclusion with Sunday night’s Team Giannis vs. Team LeBron All-Star game. Team LeBron collected a 157-156 win over Team Giannis. The Los Angeles Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard received the MVP Award for his impressive performance. That means an NBA 2K20 All-Star Moments card is on the way for the two-time NBA Finals MVP.
Team LeBron defeats Team Giannis in All-Star Game
The format was changed up for this year’s contest with each quarter being a mini-game in itself with $100,000 going to charity based on which team won the quarter. The scoreboard was reset for each quarter. However, the first three-quarters of points were combined for each team giving an interesting finale. The fourth quarter featured a frantic finish with the first team to reach 157 points winning the game.
The final moments of that fourth-quarter featured surprising fouls, challenged calls, and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis heading to the free-throw line to win it. Davis would miss on the front end of his two free-throw attempts before sinking the second.
That gave his team 157 points first, delivering a win for Team LeBron and the charity they were competing for. The charity, which had children in attendance for the game, received a total of $400,000 due to the first quarter win and winning the game itself. Team Giannis won the second quarter of the game, so $100,000 went to the charitable organization they were playing for.
The new format provided some extra incentive for the players to not only put on a show but try to get the win in order to give more money to charity. Things became competitive down the stretch with players arguing calls, taking charges, and playing more aggressive defense than is normally seen in the annual game. It gave fans an exciting night of basketball in what felt like a playoff atmosphere featuring the league’s best players.
Kawhi Leonard to receive NBA 2K20 All-Star Moments card?
This year’s NBA All-Star events in Chicago featured plenty of tributes for the late, great Kobe Bryant throughout the weekend. There were several ahead of the All-Star Game including performances from Chicago’s Jennifer Hudson and Chicago.
The NBA All-Star Game MVP Award also had a name change this year with the award renamed this year in honor of Kobe Bryant. Receiving the first-ever NBA All-Star Game Kobe Bryant MVP award was Team LeBron’s Kawhi Leonard. He had 30 points with 8-of-14 three-pointers for the night to win the trophy, according to ESPN.
With that, Leonard should receive a new NBA 2K20 All-Star Moments card in the game. As of right now, Kawhi has a Pink Diamond card from the previous Jeremy Lin Spotlight release. That card has a 97 overall rating so it’ll be interesting to see if and when he gets a new card, what that looks like.
Other players who received Moments card this weekend included 3-Point Contest winner Buddy Hield, Skills Challenge winner Bam Adebayo, and Rising Stars MVP Miles Bridges. The two NBA Slam Dunk finalists Aaron Gordon and Derrick Jones Jr. also received new Moments cards. The new cards are now available in the 2K20 All-Star Flash Packs in MyTeam Store.
