Total War: Three Kingdoms A World Betrayed DLC Coming This Month

It’s only been a couple of months since Creative Assembly released Mandate of Heaven, the last major Chapter Pack DLC for Total War: Three Kingdoms. However, today the studio announced a brand-new Chapter Pack, which will be launching in just two weeks’ time; A World Betrayed. This Total War: Three Kingdoms DLC features a new campaign start with two new playable warlords, not to mention new units, legendary characters, and more.

Total War: Three Kingdoms DLC – A World Betrayed

A World Betrayed, the third Chapter Pack DLC for Total War: Three Kingdoms, will be launching on the 19th of March. It adds a new campaign start to the game’s timeline in the year 194, only four years after the core game. As such, most of the original warlords are playable, with the exceptions of Dong Zhuo and Sun Jian. The three Yellow Turban Rebellion characters also won’t be playable. However, in their place, players will be able to play as Lü Bu or Sun Ce; each taking on their factions shortly after the deaths of their fathers.

This pair of new warlords won’t just be inheriting their fathers’ faction mechanics, however. They both feature all-new campaign mechanics, along with new unique story events. Lü Bu, for example has access to the ‘Greatest Warriors’ panel. This in-game menu details powerful heroes across the land for him to hunt down and defeat. Doing so grants him his unique faction resource – Momentum – which he can use to gain powerful bonuses. Lü Bu also gets access to two new unique units, the Camp Crushers and Flying Riders. The former are two-handed sword infantry, while the latter are heavily-armoured shock cavalry.

Sun Ce, on the other hand, has a particularly fatal faction resource; Reckless Luck. Representing how he was assassinated just a few years after his father’s death, Sun Ce will literally die if his Reckless Luck ever runs out. However, he can stave off his fate by completing ‘ambitions’ in his Legacy of Wu panel. These tasks range from conquering new territories to recruiting new characters into his court. He also has access to two new unique units, the Tiger Guard and Handmaid Guard. The latter are a new medium sword cavalry unit designed to protect characters. Meanwhile, the Tiger Guard former is a new heavy spear infantry unit. Note that Sun Ce will also have access to Mercenary units, like Sun Jian.

Sun Ce’s campaign will, of course, focus on the southern portion of the map. As such, it seems that A World Betrayed will also be adding some new threats to this rather sparse area. Namely, the bandit warlord Yan Baihu will be coming to the game as a Free-LC release alongside the new DLC. In addition, it looks as though a lot of new legendary characters will also be coming to the game, most likely as part of a free game update. Creative Assembly has yet to release a list of who is getting the upgrade to legendary status, but several characters have already been revealed in gameplay or screenshots. These include Liu Yao, Gao Shun, Chen Gong, and several others.
