Rumor: Xbox Series X and PS5 Might Cost $600

Currently, most rumors regarding the launch price of next gen consoles are pointing toward around $500. But is it possible that the Xbox Series X and the PS5 might cost $600? That is the latest rumor to be making rounds online, and it originated with a post by user VFX Veteran over on NeoGAF.

Why the Xbox Series X and PS5 Might Cost $600

VFX Veteran has a pretty good reputation on the forum, and a lot of people take what this user has to say seriously.

According to his recent post, “I heard that there are 2 consoles per company. The mid-gen refreshes are going to be introduced at release so that these consoles can run the entire 7yr cycle. XSX that was released yesterday is the top end one. 12TFLOPS. There will be a base Xbox Series X that is slower than that one. Sony is releasing 2 PS models. The base PS5 is 9TFLOPs . Their other one is also top of the line to compete with XSX top dog. This all makes sense now as to why people are getting mixed numbers for each of the platforms. I also heard that the top of the line models will be expensive. No pricing but I would guess around $600. Also no dates on when the top models will come out for PS5. My guess is that they are going to release both models at the same time.”

But it is important to remember that this is just a rumor. The user saying “I heard that …” is pretty vague. And even though this user may sometimes be correct, that doesn’t mean that this particular claim is going to be correct.

So, either way, what is the best thing you can do? Start saving up now for your PS5 or your Xbox Series X. Whether they end up costing around $600 or closer to $500, it is going to be a big holiday expense. The sooner you begin saving up, the better.
