Of course, since its announcement, there has been considerable attention paid to the fact that the newly-launched Call of Duty: Warzone is available as a standalone, free-to-play battle royale game. However, it’s worth noting that Warzone is, nevertheless, still a core part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This means that, of course, all your Modern Warfare items be usable in Warzone. Furthermore, progression in Warzone will also count towards, for example, the Modern Warfare Battle Pass.
Modern Warfare Battle Pass Progression and Items in Warzone
Following Call of Duty: Warzone’s launch earlier today, Activision has offered players a few clarifications. Specifically, clarifications on how the mode integrates with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. “Call of Duty: Warzone shares Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s crossplay and unified progression,” writes Activision; “For players that already own the full version of Modern Warfare, all content already earned including Battle Pass items, Operators, weapons, and customisation items will carry over to Warzone.”
When it comes to in-game progression, Warzone also offers full integration with Modern Warfare. The new battle royale mode contributes just like any other mode to both Battle Pass and core Modern Warfare progression. This aspect of Warzone does mean that existing Modern Warfare players do get slightly more out of playing the mode. Fortunately, new players can unlock new items in Warzone’s standalone, free-to-play version. Of course, existing Modern Warfare players are likely to have a sizable cache of items unlocked already.
However, if you’re somebody who’s playing Warzone for free and you don’t already own Modern Warfare, it’s worth noting that you won’t lose progress if you do later purchase the game. Activision has confirmed that; “For players who do not own the full version of Modern Warfare, all progress and items they’ve earned in Warzone will be rewarded across Multiplayer and Special Ops in Modern Warfare, should they ever choose to purchase it.”
