In a surprise announcement, a Super Mega Baseball 3 trailer dropped revealing that a new game for the franchise is coming very soon. The game will have a new look along with a new franchise mode, giving baseball fans what looks to be a fun simulation title. With the arrival of the trailer also comes Super Mega Baseball 3 release date and price information for various consoles.
Metalhead Software developing third baseball game with franchise mode
With MLB The Show 20 coming soon, baseball fans may have another option to play. The Super Mega Baseball 3 game comes from Metalhead Software, which is an indie game company out of Canada. They first brought out the original Super Mega Baseball back in 2014-15 for PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam with the game named Polygon’s 2014 Sports Video Game of the Year.
The second game arrived in 2018 for Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and Steam. It featured “deep team and league customization, and online multiplayer modes.” The PC version scored 83 at Metacritic with a 7.1 User Score. Xbox had an 81 and 7.1 User Score. The PS4 version came in with a 77 and 6.5 score.
It appears that what will really help Super Mega Baseball 3 stand out is a Franchise mode. The previous two installments featured Season modes so this should be a welcome addition to the newest title with gamers able to progress their own players and teams in a fun simulation style.
According to the site’s description, the new game features an “all-new Franchise mode, major graphical enhancements, and on-field additions including pickoffs and situational player traits.”
On March 11, the official Super Mega 3 Baseball announce trailer arrived on YouTube showing off the new game’s visuals.
Super Mega Baseball 3 release date, console, and price details
As of right now, the Super Mega Baseball 3 release date is set for April. There’s no specific date given for the month. Neither of the previous games arrived in April. Right now one can only speculate that Super Mega Baseball 3 will be coming early April.
The Major League Baseball season begins March 26, 2020. However, that could change due to recent developments involving coronavirus health and safety concerns. The MLB The Show 20 game has an official release date of March 17. Customers with certain pre-order editions get to play it on March 13.
The new Super Mega Baseball 3 game will arrive for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. According to Polygon, there will be cross-platform play available for the game’s head-to-head pennant race mode.
The price is $44.99 for the new game which is a bump in cost over Super Mega Baseball 2. It was $29.99, making the new game a 50 percent increase in cost. However, gamers who were unhappy with the $2.99/each in-game purchases for SMB2 will be happy to know those aren’t in SMB3.
“We’ve kept it simple — one purchase gets you the whole package and there are no in-game purchases,” Metalhead Software co-founder Scott Drader told Polygon.
Reportedly, Metalhead will release a free trial mode of the game for all platforms as well.
