With the NBA and NHL seasons coming to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic, many sports stars are turning to video games. While players are going online to compete in different games, some of the teams are simulating the regular seasons games on their schedules. That includes Washington’s Wizards and Capitals who made a big announcement regarding NBA 2K20 and NHL20.
Washington Wizards, Capitals to simulate with NBA 2K20 and NHL 20
Sports video games provide many options for fans to explore different scenarios. However, most of the popular titles including NBA 2K20 and NHL 20, offer season and playoff simulations. That’s what the Washington, D.C. franchises have announced they’ll broadcast for fans.
A report via Sports Business Journal indicated that the games will be broadcast by the NBC Sports Washington network and streamed online via Monumental for viewers with access. Most real-life sports games span at least two hours. However, these will be just one-hour simulations. They’ll rely upon Take-Two Interactive’s NBA 2K20 and EA’s NHL20 artificial intelligence.
That means the games will factor team ratings, injuries, and other variables into the results. Interestingly, these simulated games will also feature unique commentary and/or analysis.
Per the report, The Capitals hockey simulations will include the NBC Sports Washington Capitals announcers. The Wizards games will include NBA 2K20 video and audio along with analysis from the RSN Wizards coverage.
“We hope this content gives fans a welcome outlet for their passion and interest in the Capitals and Wizards,” NBCSW Senior Vice President & General Manager Damon Phillips said of the news.
“If the video game version of Bradley Beal and Alex Ovechkin live up to their real-life counterparts, fans should be in for a fun experience,” Phillips added.
First simulation game to take place this weekend
The simulated games will be those that correspond with the team’s regular-season schedules. For instance, the first NBA 2K20 simulation will feature the Washington Wizards playing Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. It takes place on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time via NBCS Washington and Monumental.
The first Washington Capitals simulation game will arrive on Tuesday. They’ll have a virtual matchup against the St. Louis Blues, beginning at 7 p.m. ET. It will also be telecast by NBCS Washington and live online via Monumental. Viewers must have access to these particular channels through their cable or satellite to watch.
