The Checkdown Madden 20 Tournament went live on Wednesday night with eight NFL stars battling it out. Four players served up wins and moved into the Final Four, which will produce the championship matchup. Amongst the semifinals competitors are Super Bowl champion Tyreek Hill and recent Madden Invitational champ Derwin James.
NFL stars advance to The Checkdown Madden 20 Tournament semis
Just this past weekend, Los Angeles Chargers star Derwin James staked his early claim as the one to beat in The Checkdown Madden 20 Tournament. That’s because James took down Madden cover star Michael Vick in the event hosted by FOX and televised on FS1. He not only defeated the Madden legend but James obliterated Vick by putting up 80 points on the virtual scoreboard.
The Invitational featured a celebrity field including former players. However, The Checkdown’s tournament to benefit COVID-19 relief features only current NFL stars. Eight players entered and just four remained after Wednesday night’s first round.
In the first matchup, Browns teammates Denzel Ward and Jarvis Landry battled it out. Ward picked up a win in a tight contest 10-9 using the Houston Texans against Landry with the Browns. The second matchup saw Tyreek Hill destroy Tyrann Mathieu. Ironically, Hill was using the Chicago Bears and defeated Mathieu (Chiefs) 62-32.
In the third matchup, there were technical difficulties. The 49ers’ Deebo Samuel was having issues joining the matchup, so ultimately Desean Jackson got the W by default. Jackson was using the Eagles as his team of choice. The fourth and final matchup saw Derwin James take the win, but not as big a win as he had over Vick. James bested his teammate Keenan Allen 14-6 using the Seahawks to defeat the Ravens.
Semifinals matchups, when and where to watch
Advancing to the tournament semifinals were Derwin James (Chargers) along with Denzel Ward (Browns), DeSean Jackson (Eagles), and Tyreek Hill (Chiefs). The matchups will feature Ward vs. Hill and Jackson vs. James. The two semifinals winners will compete for The Checkdown Madden 20 Tournament title.
Viewers can watch the semifinals and final game starting at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, April 2. Visit the Twitch EA Madden NFL channel to watch it all live streaming online. The conclusion of the tournament is expected to run three hours.
