God of War Celebrates its Second Anniversary Since Launch
Today, the 20th of April, marks the two-year anniversary of the release of God of War, back in 2018. The enormously-successful PlayStation exclusive has since become one of the most highly-rated games ever made, set high standards for storytelling in gaming, and also spearheaded a return for high-quality single-player games. To celebrate its second anniversary, Santa Monica Studios has announced three new collector’s items which are now available to pre-order.
God of War’s Second Anniversary: New Collectors’ Item Pre-Orders
The first of the three new articles of God of War merchandise is a new book. Santa Monica Studios has partnered once more with Dark Horse, a publisher whom they have worked with before, in order to publish a real-world version of Atreus’ journal. Entitled God of War: Lore & Legends, this upcoming hardcover includes a detailed bestiary, dossiers on the game’s characters, and a deeper dive into some of its lore. This book is currently available to pre-order for $34.99. Its release date is the 9th of September, later this year.
Up next is a rather impressive, but also very exclusive collector’s item. Santa Monica Studios have partnered with Gaming Heads for this one; a life-size bust of Kratos from the 2018 God of War. Only 500 of these busts are being made, with the finer details of each one painted by hand. Standing 25″ tall, one of these busts will cost you a massive $799.99! Like the new book, this item is now available to pre-order, although Gaming Heads doesn’t list a specific release date yet.
Finally, Santa Monica Studios has also partnered with Rubber Road for a new TUBBZ lineup; two miniature ducks cosplaying as both Atreus and Kratos. They’re certainly one of the more bizarre merch items to have come along for God of War. Each one of these is available to pre-order for $12.99, though once again, an exact release date has yet to be determined. Given the current pandemic situation, it’s understandable that a firm release date for these collector’s items may not be announced for some time.
