Today (May 27th) was the State of Play Presentation for The Last of Us Part II. The event ran for around 20 minutes, during which gamers were treated to never-before-seen footage from the game. We also learned an abundance of details about what we can expect regarding setting, combat, and more. Let’s check out some of the key highlights from The Last of Us Part II State of Play Presentation.

What We Learned from The Last of Us Part II State of Play Presentation
Naughty Dog packed a ton of information into the presentation. But here is some of what stood out:
- This installment will take us to areas which the previous game didn’t. The majority of the action appears to be set in the Pacific Northwest, specifically in Seattle. Once again, the timeframe of the game will span multiple seasons.
- Ellie can swim (thank goodness). There is a lot of flooding, and at times, using a boat is necessary to get around. It looks like there is an upgrade for breathing longer underwater too (at least, we think we spotted that).
- Ellie can now use ropes to climb or swing across the landscape.
- Two factions are warring to control Seattle, called the Washington Liberation Front and the Seraphites.
- Human enemies have dogs which can search for you. When you use the listen ability, you can also see your scent trail.
- There are new types of infected. One new type called Shamblers was shown.
- Suppressors for guns are available, as are other custom upgrades.
- The emphasis on sneaking has only increased. The same goes for fleeing.
- There will be allies to help out at times.
- As in Left Behind, there are situations where you can turn your enemies on each other.
- Hiding in the grass provides partial cover.
- There will reportedly be a lot more Runners than in the original game.
If you get the chance, you will want to watch The Last of Us Part II State of Play Presentation to see all this for yourself. Originally, the game would have released already, but COVID-19 delayed it. The Last of Us Part II will release on June 19th, 2020.
