Cory Barlog Debunks Supposed God of War 2 Release Date ‘Leak’

Recently, rumours began to circulate on social media that the planned release date of God of War 2 had been leaked. According to the rumours, the game would be coming to PS5 in Fall of 2021. However, the original leak, which claimed to be from ‘credible sources,’ has now been debunked by the game’s director.

God of War 2 Release Date ‘Leak’ Isn’t Accurate

These latest rumours about the God of War 2 release date originated from a YouTuber who goes by ‘Moore’s Law is Dead‘. Citing supposed insider knowledge and ‘credible sources,’ this YouTuber recently claimed that God of War 2 would come to PS5 in Fall of 2021. He also claimed that Fable would be teased in the Xbox Games Showcase – something which did prove to be accurate. (Although it should be noted that the Fable teaser was very widely-anticipated; rumours about the game have abounded online since it first entered development in 2018. As such, actual insider knowledge certainly wasn’t necessary to make such a safe prediction.)

God of War 2 Release Date Leak Debunked 2

However, as for the Fall 2021 release date for God of War 2, a far more credible source has now weighed in; the game’s director, Cory Barlog. In response to news circulating online about this ‘leak’ he posted a message which sums things up pretty clearly.

Fake ‘leaks’ being made up by people online in order to get attention is hardly new. At best, Fall 2021 is a very safe prediction; far enough away that most people wouldn’t question it, or indeed, remember it months down the line. A sequel to the critically-acclaimed God of War is certainly in active development. However, it’s fairly unlikely that a firm release date has even been decided upon yet. Indeed, given the current situation with COVID-19, many publishers have been extremely non-committal with their release dates. Both the Xbox Games Showcase and PS5 Game Reveal Event, which recently revealed a whole host of new games and announcements, featured almost no firm release dates, even for games due to launch by the end of the year.
