Love PS VR, but hoping for an upgrade to Sony’s VR technology? You might be in luck. Going by a recent job posting, it appears that Sony is developing a VR headset for the PlayStation 5. At least, that is the simplest conclusion to draw. Let’s take a look at the listing text for ourselves to see what we can learn about the potential PS5 VR headset.
How We Know About the PS5 VR Headset
Sony has a job listing up in Japanese. Translated to English, it mentions, “We are developing a next-generation VR head-mounted display.”
It is true that there is no mention of “PlayStation 5” or “PS5” in the listing. But it is hard to think that “next-generation” would refer to anything else at this point. Almost certainly, the listing is talking about a PS5 VR headset.
Additionally, the listing says that the after hiring, the candidate will be “in charge of the mechanical design of the lens barrel supporting the optical system, small and lightweight housing, heat radiation design, development of jig for optical system evaluation, etc.”
The only other information about the headset itself is extremely general, referencing both the quality of its visuals and its comfort level. Naturally, these are both things we would expect from any PlayStation VR headset. So, this really tells us nothing about what we could expect. Since Sony Corp rather than SIE posted the job listing though, we wonder if the VR headset might not be exclusively for use with PS5, but encompass other Sony products as well.
Speaking of visual quality, recently there have been some rumors going around that the PlayStation 5 may have trouble with 4K. If there is more information about the possible PS5 VR headset over the months ahead, we will update you on it in that same section.
