When it comes down to Madden 21 defense, you can improve your overall chances of preventing a big play by the opponent’s receivers. That involves sticking with your man on coverage and playing some great on-the-ball defense. In this guide, we’ll take a look at how to swat a pass or intercept in Madden 21 so you can potentially take away a big reception.
How to swat a pass in Madden 21 defense
So you’ve assigned man-to-man coverage on a receiver. Or perhaps you have a double-team set on them. Even so, there are Superstar X-Factors which allow certain receivers to play well even when doubled. That said, let’s look at how to swat the pass in the Madden 21 defense so they won’t get that huge reception.
- If you’re not already controlling the defender who will attempt to swat the pass away, you need to switch over to them. Press Circle on PlayStation 4 controller or B on the Xbox One controller.
- As the ball is coming to the receiver, press Square on the PS4 controller or X on the Xbox One controller. This will swat the ball away.
Of course, timing is everything. So make sure you’re not just randomly pressing the buttons ahead of a pass. That could lead to a costly mistake, possibly allowing the receiver to get away.
There’s also a set of drills available in the Madden 21 practice mode. In one of the advanced modes, you’ll be able to test your swatting abilities or try for an interception. More on that in the next section.
To get to the drills, go to Exhibition Mode, and choose Skills Trainer. Choose “Advanced Techniques” towards the right side of drill options, and scroll down to select “User Coverage.”
How to intercept the ball in the game
Trying to get an interception in Madden 21 is similar to swatting the ball away. You’ll need to make sure you’ve switched to the defender who is covering the thrown-to receiver.
- Use the Circle on PlayStation 4 controller or B on Xbox One controller to cycle through until you find the defender.
- As the ball is coming to the receiver, press the Triangle on the PS4 controller or the Y button on the Xbox One controller.
Just like swatting the ball in Madden 21 defense, an interception in the game comes down to timing. It also involves being positioned in front of the receiver, unless it’s a tipped ball situation. If you’re in the right place at around the right time, you’ll have a better chance of picking off the ball!
