Early reports have been giving us impressions about both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. In fact, early users have emphasized that both of the consoles run very quietly. But here’s the thing—that doesn’t necessarily equate to running coolly, unfortunately. Indeed, some early users are reporting that the Xbox Series X may be prone to overheating.
Could the Xbox Series X be Prone to Overheating?
Ken Bogard of Jeux Video said in a video that was since removed, “The Series X is hot, like really hot. It doesn’t make any noise, but damn it’s hot! The console is emitting heat like crazy. It’s almost like a fireplace shaft. You can heat up your flat with it.”
Jeff Bakkalar of Giant Bomb made similar observations. He said, “Here’s what’s crazy… this was just plugged in in standby mode behind me and you guys, the entire thing is a little toasty. It seems like in the way like a lot of the other consoles were doing stuff while you were not using them, it seems like this thing might be doing something while you’re not using it, to the point where it needs to exhaust heat.”
So, that isn’t awesome news. Of course, it is the temperature inside the console that is most important, not the temperature outside of it. Hopefully the fans are keeping the interior of the unit cool. But there is no way to know if that is the case right now, or if the interior feels like the exterior does. Let’s just hope that however hot the console feels, it isn’t actually on the verge of overheating.
The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S both will release on November 10th. You can buy the Xbox Series X for $499, and the Xbox Series S for $299. If you want to find out more about both consoles and compare them, you can check out their official pages.
