Pokemon Go Is Getting New Research Quests With Gen 1 Pokemon

Pokemon Go has enjoyed something of a player resurgence recently, and that means there’s a ton of new content to enjoy as well. Developer Niantic recently announced via Twitter that, along with record high player counts recently, the game will soon be introducing new research tasks that you can complete, with a set of Field Research quests scheduled to roll out this July. They’ll focus primarily on Pokemon that were originally part of the “first generation” of Pocket Monsters, and thus originally found in the Kanto region.

Aside from this tidbit, however, Niantic didn’t go into detail about what you can expect to do in the Field Research tasks, or what you could possibly get from them. It’s been confirmed that Snorlax will be making an appearance, however, as well as Pikachu, Ditto, and Eevee, so if you have some favorite Gen 1 Pokemon, it wouldn’t be unthinkable to see them included in the game.

We’re not sure what you’ll get for achieving a Research Breakthrough once enough Field Research tasks have been completed either, but older rewards included a chance encounter with a Legendary Pokemon. The previous set of tasks rewarded users with the chance to capture the Legendary Pokemon Articuno, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store this time around.

Pokemon Go - Pikachu

Pokemon Go is going to be offering a lot of these promotions in the future, most likely, especially as the new Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! games will feature cross-functionality with the mobile title in the future. You’ll be able to bring Pokemon you capture in Pokemon Go to the Let’s Go series, which is an interesting development, and these new quests could potentially tie into that new ability to do so somehow. We can’t wait to complete more quests, nor can we wait to try out the new Switch titles, so we’ll bring you additional details as they develop.
