Earlier this year, Respawn announced that Apex Legends would be coming to both Steam on PC and the Nintendo Switch. Today, after a four-month wait, the studio announced the game’s Steam release date; the 4th of November. However, the news was accompanied by the announcement that the Nintendo Switch release of Apex Legends has been delayed.
Apex Legends Nintendo Switch Release Delayed
“For those who game on the Nintendo Switch,” writes Apex Legends Game Director Chad Grenier; “we’re still hard at work on the port, but in order to do justice to the game and make it into the great experience Switch players deserve, our team needs more time. This year has brought on unexpected new challenges, to put it mildly, and we don’t want to rush anything out.”
Earlier today, Respawn released a new episode of their Stories From the Outlands series, together with a host of details for the upcoming Season 7. Included in those details was the news that the long-awaited Apex Legends Steam release date would be the 4th of November; the same day that Season 7 launches. However, it seems that Switch users will have to wait longer before they get access to the game.
According to Grenier, the Apex Legends Switch port will now launch sometime in 2021. However, Respawn has given no indication of when its release date will fall. They have confirmed that the game will feature full cross-platform play at launch, as well as full feature parity with the various other versions of the game. Cross-play only recently launched in beta in Apex Legends, earlier this month alongside the Aftermarket Collection event. Cross-progression isn’t currently available. However, Respawn has indicated that the Steam version of the game will feature cross-progression with the existing Origin version. It’s currently unknown when console-to-PC cross-progression will become available.
