With the launch of the Xbox Series X, Gearbox has today released the Borderlands 3 next-gen upgrade; a free update which players can download to boost the game on next-gen consoles. The upgrade is available from today on the Xbox Series X, and will be available on the PS5 once that console launches later this month.
The Borderlands 3 Next-Gen Upgrade
“Borderlands 3 has been fully optimized to take advantage of the processing power of next-gen consoles,” writes Gearbox; “bringing a new level of graphical fidelity to the Borderlands universe. Now you can enjoy Borderlands 3 at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution during single-player and online co-op on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. All next-gen consoles also support three- and four-player split-screen local multiplayer.”
The Borderlands 3 next-gen upgrade launches today alongside a range of new editions and content. The Borderlands 3 Ultimate and Next-Level Editions also launch today, as well as the new Designer’s Cut DLC. The game’s second Season Pass is also available from today, allowing players to get a discount on the two new expansions in Season 2.
Any player who already owns Borderlands 3 on the PS4 or Xbox One who buys a next-gen console can upgrade the game for free. (Note that this upgrade is only free if you stay within the same console family; i.e. if you have the game on Xbox One and buy a PS5, it won’t be freely available.) If you have the game’s physical disc, you will of course need a next-gen console with a disc drive. In addition to the upgrade, you’ll also be able to port all of your progress and DLC content across.
As part of a separate update which went live today on all consoles, Borderlands 3 now offers vertical split-screen for two-player local co-op. This is available on both current- and next-gen consoles.
