Deathloop, the upcoming first-person shooter from Arkane – the studio behind the award-winning Dishonoured franchise – finally has an official release date. Originally planned to launch in December, the game was delayed earlier this year to Q2 of 2021. However, a new trailer released today has now revealed that the new Deathloop release date will be the 21st of May.
The New Deathloop Release Date
“Welcome to Blackreef,” writes Arkane; “where the party never stops and neither does the killing. For most of its inhabitants, it’s a paradise. But for Colt, it’s an inescapable prison. Thanks to a mysterious timeloop, he’s reliving the same day, over and over, trying to find a way to break the endless cycle he’s trapped in. […] Learn from each cycle; try new paths, gather intel and find new weapons and abilities. Do whatever it takes to break the loop.”
True to form for Arkane, players won’t just have guns to rely on in Deathloop. Colt also has a variety of special abilities and skills, which should aid players in eliminating eight specific targets. The problem is, players must eliminate all eight targets before the day ends, when the timeloop resets. Players must learn from each cycle in an almost rogue-like style, gathering information and developing strategies. As an added complication, Colt’s rival Julianna is also hunting the player, and will also be learning with each cycle in order to thwart the player’s plans.

Although Arkane is now owned by Microsoft, as a result of their recent acquisition of Bethesda, the company has confirmed that they will honour the game’s existing PS5 exclusivity. Deathloop will be available on PC and PS5 at launch. However, it won’t be coming to Xbox Series X for at least one year. This agreement also applies for Ghostwire Tokyo’s PS5 exclusivity, the game currently in development at Tango Gameworks; another studio now owned by Microsoft. However, there is some speculation that future games from these studios, and others under the Bethesda umbrella, could launch as Xbox exclusives instead.
