NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Face Scan Update for PS5, Xbox Series X

The NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Edition launched just this past week, with gamers able to ball out as the new consoles also debuted. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S was first, with the Sony PlayStation 5 arriving several days after. The new version of 2K’s game received a launch day update, with more on the way. Basically, there will be a number of NBA 2K21 Next-Gen face scans added into the game.

Erick Boenisch comments NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Face Scan update

In a Twitter video posted on Thursday (November 12), NBA 2K21 Executive Producer Erick Boenisch let fans know the deal with face scans. He brought up seeing players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the original next-gen trailer and how realistic they looked. However, he explained there were still more players’ faces that need to be added.

He basically mentioned that 2K didn’t have access to NBA players once the league shut down this past March. They couldn’t get into the NBA bubble site in Florida either this past July. Due to this, they couldn’t finish scanning all the players they needed.

“We’re going to do everything we can, everything we can, to scan every single NBA player and get them to you as quickly as possible,” Boenisch promised in the video clip.

Boenisch said since the original NBA 2K21 Next-Gen trailer video arrived, they scanned an additional 40 NBA players for the game. He added that most of those 40 players were delivered in the Day 1 patches that went out on launch day with the new game.

It’s unknown who the other players are that will be added into the game, but stay tuned as details arrive.

Other additions, minor fixes for 2K game

We previously reported about how the new NBA 2K21 Next-Gen games for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X take up a lot of storage space. It was said to take over 120GB for the new Xbox and around 150GB or so on PS5. However, the Day 1 launch update wasn’t that big in size, due to not having a ton of things to update.

In addition to the new face scans that Boenisch mentioned, there have been a few other additions to the game. They included Bape Official face masks (below), and according to Real Sport 101, fixing an NBA 2K21 banner issue in the game.

There may have been some minor glitch fixes here or there, as well, but otherwise, this wasn’t a huge NBA 2K21 Next-Gen update. Nonetheless, the next-gen game appears as if it has been popular for the most part. There’s been a few complaints here or there, as with most games, but overall it seems like a winner on the new consoles.

Next week, 2K plans to celebrate 21 years of their game with an event called 2KFest. It will feature NBA stars and legends as well as influencers and musical performers in a major online event. The event takes place on November 20 and continues for 24 hours via live stream on Twitter, Twitch, and YouTube.
