Despite the recent launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Activision doesn’t seem to be planning on shutting down Call of Duty: Modern Warfare anytime soon. The game’s most recent season, Season 6, has just received an extension, giving players more than a week of extra time to play.
The Modern Warfare Season 6 Extension
Originally scheduled to end relatively recently, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 6 has nonetheless remained live. Infinity Ward has announced that the season will continue for almost two more weeks. As such, it will now come to an end at 11:00 PM PT on the 7th of December. Notably, this extends the season up to the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1. (Which is due to start two days later on the 9th of December.)
At present, neither Activision nor Infinity Ward have confirmed whether there will be a Season 7 for Modern Warfare. Indeed, the prospects are looking rather hazy either way. Even if the game does get a seventh season, fans should expect it to feature substantially less overall content than previous seasons. After all, Activision’s focus now is on the first season in Black Ops Cold War. Giving Modern Warfare a major seventh season wouldn’t be a great incentive to convince players to buy the new game!
Insider sources from Infinity Ward have indicated that there is more content for Modern Warfare on the way. However, it’s currently unknown what this content is, or when it will be announced. For now, fans will have to wait and see. Fortunately, however, it is known that Black Ops Cold War’s seasons will continue to offer content for Call of Duty: Warzone just as Modern Warfare’s did. The exact content coming to Warzone in Cold War Season 1 has yet to be revealed. However, it is listed on the season roadmap as a “Classified Warzone Experience”.
