CD Projekt RED Comments on Seizure Triggers in Cyberpunk 2077

Video games triggering seizures in those with epilepsy and similar conditions is, unfortunately, nothing new. Many games include a seizure warning. But now we can add Cyberpunk 2077 to the pile of games that may not be accessible for all gamers. Game Informer recently brought up this issue in a review, and CD Projekt RED just responded. Let’s take a look at what each had to say.

What CD Projekt RED Had to Say About Seizure Triggers in Cyberpunk 2077

You can see the relevant tweets below:

A reviewer on Game Informer noted a “rapid onslaught of white and red blinking LEDs, much like the actual device neurologists use in real life to trigger a seizure when they need one for diagnosis purposes” in a memory hacking sequence. The reviewer adds, “When you notice the headset come into play, look away completely or close your eyes. This is a pattern of lights designed to trigger an epileptic episode and it very much did that in my own personal playthrough.”

In their tweet responding to Game Informer, CD Projekt RED says, “Thank you for bringing this up. We’re working on adding a separate warning in the game, aside from the one that exists in the EULA (https://cyberpunk.net/en/user-agreement/). Regarding a more permanent solution, Dev team is currently exploring that and will be implementing it as soon as possible.”

Cyberpunk 2077 Performance Great on New and Old Consoles 2

What is a “more permanent solution?” It would certainly be awesome if it were a patch that would remove the seizure-inducing features of the game. There are way too many video games that are not safe for gamers who are prone to seizures. This is a topic that is near and dear to me, as multiple close friends of mine are unable to play quite a few games they would like to because of seizures. It is time to stop leaving seizure-prone gamers out in the cold. Let’s hope that CD Projekt RED finds a way to make Cyberpunk 2077 safe for everybody. Cyberpunk 2077 launches December 10th.
