What to Expect From Prop Hunt in Black Ops Cold War

Among the new game modes introduced to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in Season One, Prop Hunt may very well be the most distinct. A fan-favourite classic of the series, Prop Hunt in its latest iteration should be familiar to veteran players.

Black Ops Cold War’s New Prop Hunt Mode

“The party mode defined by deception and random objects coming to life is back for Black Ops Cold War,” writes Activision; “and the rules are just as you remember it when it was first introduced within the franchise in 2017. If you’re new to the Prop Hunt experience, think of it as a Call of Duty version of hide-and-seek.”

In Prop Hunt, players compete as props and hunters. The former take on the form of a random object found within the map. While you lack a weapon, you can change shape a limited number of times, put down decoys, and stun Hunters with a flashbang. Unfortunately, you do have a downside; you’ll whistle loudly every 30 seconds. The Hunters, meanwhile, will be hunting the props until none remain alive. They don’t have any special abilities to help them on the hunt, so players must rely on their intuition and perception to succeed.

More so than normal, map knowledge is vital in Prop Hunt. While knowing a map well gives you a distinct advantage in any mode, knowing a map in fine detail will help you immensely. After all, if you can remember the exact layout of a room, you’ll know which objects are out of place. Similarly, you may spot hiding places which other players might not think of, giving you an edge as a Prop as well. Of course, as with any mode, you’ll still need a keen eye and precise aim; after all, many Props may be smaller than regular human targets.
